Milan has been living in Albanilla's mountains for 5 years now, where he bought a large piece of land to make his dream come true: saving and caring for neglected stray dogs. It all started with "Zecke", the first stray dog to enjoy the hospitality of Milan. Zecke was completely under the sign when Milan found him. According to the vet there was nothing left to do, but Milan's heart was stolen and he did everything he could do to help Zecke. Zecke is now the dog who greets you when you visit Milan.
And that’s where the story begins and it did not stay with that one dog. Currenty Milan resides in his dog paradise with his 60 dogs. Now recently he has been very fortunate to get permanent help from his good friend Jens. Because of Jens’ help they will be able to share and divide the workload.
Milan has been working hard for 5 years for the welfare of his dogs getting spacious houses built, trees planted for natural shadow and so forth.
Milan started with a few dogs and now provides a large group of stray dogs who live in big rowed kennels in a large property where they can walk freely. People and police bring dogs to Milan every so often. The majority of them are black dogs. The story and superstion why the spanish people abandon these black dogs lies in the believe that they are bad karma and that the spanish are afraid of them. Fortunately, Milan is getting more material and financial assistance which is desperately needed. For example, Patricia Kempen of the Belgian association "Galgos du Coer" has been coming to Spain regularly, bringing dogs from killing stations which she hopes to foster or get adopted , medicine, material, food and so forth for the dogs. Needless to say Milan is very happy with it.
Also a number of regional animal lovers support Milan's "Residencia Canina Abanilla" as much as they can. Revenue from second-hand sales is an integral part of the purchase of dog food. In the Netherlands, through the collectibusses some money is raised so that food can be purchased and materials can be bought. But still additional help is needed. Dog food, medicines, various materials and financial aid are very welcome.
