♦ Walk #307: Tuesday 6th January: Parque Montaña
Here’s a chance to go looking for those elusive 3 Kings! This is an 8Km walk with an overall height gain of 275m mostly on good tracks and unmade roads, with two quite easy, but steepish scrambles of about 20m over 100m each.
♦ The Rendezvous (RV)
We meet at the car park outside the Parque Montaña (38.235050°N -0.882917°E for those on Sat Nav) for those on old fashioned navigation from the CV-873, Albatera to Hondón de los Frailes, turn onto the canal road, between the Kms 4 and 5 stones, in the direction of Crevillente, or East. Take this road carefully, watching out for potholes and narrow places. Cross the narrow bridge, along the aqueduct, not too many cars at once, and then continue along the road until you have crossed two large sleeping policemen and turn left over the canal just after the 21.2Km mark on the far canal bank, Bridge 16. There is a large sign just over the bridge for Zona 2, Las Lomas, continue up this road, which runs alongside Urbanization Serralba, until it widens out into a parking area just outside the Parque. If you are uncertain, I shall be leaving Hondón de los Frailes at 09.30, so you can meet me on the Albatera side of the village just before then to travel in convoy with me.
Meet in the Parque Montaña car park to set off walking at 10.00. Boots or stout walking shoes recommended, carry your own simple first aid kit, water, snacks if required, and protective clothing. Walking sticks/poles at your discretion, but I shall be taking mine.
Depending on weather conditions and how many rest breaks we take I suggest about 2 and a half hours for this walk.
